“Time of the Snails” by Art Tremondo

…at a snail’s pace

The hour of happiness has come! Marquis d’Escargot and Baroness Abalonia de l’Atlantique go about their business in a pompous, poetic, highly bizarre, and lightning-fast manner—by their standards, that is. They do themselves proud, holding court here and there, seemingly turning the sense of time upside down in the process.

Medieval market
Ort: Neumühlepark

Hear ye, good people, and listen to the news that is being spread throughout the land: Let a most splendid market event arise.

The melodies of the Ranunculus minstrels ring out across the square, their strings and pipes resounding. Mikarus, a minstrel of great artistry, lets his melodies float through the streets. Kasper the juggler, a rogue by the grace of God, plays his colorful game and brings joy to young and old alike. And when the shadows grow longer, Perzys ōregon, a fire-playing troupe, steps forward and commands the fire as if it were their faithful servant.

Merchants from many lands display their wares, and in the camp fires blaze, around which stories, struggles, and joys of times past gather. Food and drink are served in abundance, so that everyone may be strengthened in body and spirit. So come, good people, and join in this venerable bustle.

Musical and literary summer evening
Ort: Rasentheater, Neumühlepark

Musical and literary summer evening at the Rasentheater. The duo Wortlaut (Madeleine Giese, Rainer Furch) presents Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s enchanting and humorous fairy tale “The Little Prince” together with Teade Abma (dance), Konstanze Licht (harp), Sophie Barili (flute), and Johannes Pardall (viola).

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s “Le Petit Prince” is one of the most popular works of French literature. Translated into over 50 languages, it has touched young and old alike since its publication in 1943 – as an enchanting and humorous fairy tale, as well as a passionate plea for friendship and humanity in the dark
times of World War II. Everyone knows the story, and yet it always feels like a new experience when the pilot encounters the lovable and literally “peculiar” Little Prince in the scorching desert heat—a being from another planet who, with his naive and therefore naturally critical view, shows him what it means to be truly human.

Claude Debussy’s “Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp” forms the musical framework of the concert. Composed in 1915, it combines the colorful, shimmering, and floating sound world of Impressionism with quotations from Baroque dance movements.
